Casting TROUBLE

Trouble only works if you believe two things about him at once: that he desperately wants to belong, and that he is in far over his head. Casting the part meant finding an actor who could hold both in a single look — eagerness and panic, one beat apart.

Sule Thelwell brought exactly that. Babyfaced, quick, and hungry for approval on screen, with something anxious always running underneath. You root for him and worry about him in the same moment, which is the whole engine of the film.

Sule is one of Jamaica’s most exciting young actors, with a growing international profile — work across Netflix’s XO, Kitty and the Hulu / Disney+ thriller Saint X, among others. He carries TROUBLE almost frame to frame, and the film rests on how much you feel for a young man trying not to drown.

Around him, the cast sharpens the pressure — including Tristan Alleyne as Deputy Corporal Audley Spencer, the kind of presence that turns a bad night worse. Every supporting role was cast to raise the temperature on Trouble, never to let him off the hook.
